Sunday Sketch-capades

Hello!

It's Sunday ! The weather here is dark ,but not so dreary. A slight chill in the air and I am having fun wearing warm socks and enjoying a movie marathon curled up on my couch.

I know I missed the last two Sunday sketch-capades. Life was busy! It still is, but I did do some quick sketches. These were really really fast without placing any stress on getting to be too realistic..

Since its been raining EVERYDAY and heavily, I obviously had umbrellas and rain boots on my mind.

While reluctantly doing some general housekeeping, realized that I had a lot of animal and bird artefacts scattered around my house , so I decided to try sketching some of those.

I love this rooster.

 and isn't this hedgehog the cutest!:-)

Okay, I think I have made up for the last couple of weeks. Yay me! Time to go back to the couch.

Sunday Sketch-capades

Hello!

How was the long weekend? I went for long drives and enjoyed the lush greenery and the rains. Took a lot of pictures for possible sketching projects. Let's see how many I can actually work on.

I missed my Sunday sketch last week owing to a bad bout of flu. I was determined to make something for this week, but boy, this was not a good week for me. I tried three watercolour paintings and all of them were real disasters. I have almost lost hope in my ability to handle the medium.:-(

This was my first project and I don't think its finished. I like some elements of it but overall it seems juvenile to me. I did like the splatter background though.

After this, while dejectedly browsing Pinterest for some easy watercolour projects, I came across the blog of watercolour artist Pat Howard. She is a wonderful artist and very generous in sharing tips and techniques. If you are a newbie like me, you should check her blog out. It's a goldmine of information and her tutorials are fabulous.

I followed her negative painting tutorial and here's how mine looks. Again, not very good, but I had fun learning about the technique.

Sunday Sketch-capades

Hello,

I am back again with a new Sunday sketch. This time I decided to sketch a dream catcher. I love dream catchers and the story behind them. I had made one some time back and loved it, so I decided to try sketching one.

This was done using Derwent inktense pencils and Sigma micron pen .I love the splatters on the background. The photos are not great as unfortunately by the time I got done, the sun had already gone down. Hopefully the next time, I will plan things better and not do my sketches at the very last minute.:-)

Sunday Sketch-capades

Hello!

Today is a great day for me. I have been super worried about some health issues for the past few weeks and I have been drowning myself in self pity. Today I got a clean chit from the doctor  and wow that was such a relief! On top of that, I learnt that I am one of the spotlight designers (spot lit designer?) on Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge for the SECOND time. Yayyyyy (Yeah ,I forgot to mention the previous one which was for this project)! So ,needless to say, I am doing a happy dance!( There is some confusion about the entry number, so maybe I have not been spot lit , but never mind, I am still happy) :-)

Now that all the showing off has been done, let's move on to the actual topic of this post. I had mentioned in one of my previous posts, that I am trying to improve on my drawing skills.My plan was to sketch daily. Well, that didn't happen.

I have not given up though and am motivated to start again. I plan to start small and am committing myself to creating at least one sketch a week, hence the super clever (according to me ) title.

Okay, so once that decision is taken, the next step is to decide what to sketch. For a newbie like me, it's very difficult to sketch just from imagination, so the next best thing is to pick up subjects from around me and try and sketch those. One of the things that I am passionate about is reading and a lot of books have some cool illustrations, so I figured that will be the best way to combine two of my interests. I will try all kinds of subjects of course, but for starters this is what I did.

Okay, the water colouring is not so great, but I am thrilled that the sketch is not too bad. Here's the pic with the book.

My first ever attempt to copy from a book was this

This was just on copy paper and I coloured it using some orange Gelatos. I didn't take too much care with the colouring ,to be honest.

How do you like it? Do you have any tips or advice on how I can improve? I would love to know.

Sketchy Aspirations

Hello!

How is everybody? Life has been busy and it's been super hot, leading to lethargy and lassitude. Well, more than usual in my case.:-)

I have been creating, but it feels like too much effort taking pictures and posting them. I however, have been meaning to post something new that I tried, for the longest time. The time has come. Cue dramatic music.:-)

You see, I have these huge artsy aspirations. Shh.. don't tell anybody.I have big dreams of being a real painter, to be able to paint pretty pictures, realistic or abstract and fun and beautiful. Only problem is that I do not have the talent or the skill to do so at this moment. What a bummer!Lol

I am not giving up though. I am taking baby steps and trying my hand at sketching and what better way to force encourage yourself to do so by participating in some fun challenges.

I have been following some great artist blogs and one of them, Dion Dior hosts a weekly sketch party .

I sketched and painted these birds a few months back when husband and I had gone to a bird sanctuary. My plan was to sketch all the birds that we saw, but I am done with just three.Be kind though. This is the very first time that I have attempted sketching and watercolours.

These are coloured with Inktense pencils. Love the vivid colours.

P.S :Doesn't the dove look funny and cartoonish. It just makes me laugh.
