Hello!
Today is a great day for me. I have been super worried about some health issues for the past few weeks and I have been drowning myself in self pity. Today I got a clean chit from the doctor and wow that was such a relief! On top of that, I learnt that I am one of the spotlight designers (spot lit designer?) on Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge for the SECOND time. Yayyyyy (Yeah ,I forgot to mention the previous one which was for this project)! So ,needless to say, I am doing a happy dance!( There is some confusion about the entry number, so maybe I have not been spot lit , but never mind, I am still happy) :-)
Now that all the showing off has been done, let's move on to the actual topic of this post. I had mentioned in one of my previous posts, that I am trying to improve on my drawing skills. My plan was to sketch daily. Well, that didn't happen.
I have not given up though and am motivated to start again. I plan to start small and am committing myself to creating at least one sketch a week, hence the super clever (according to me ) title.
Okay, so once that decision is taken, the next step is to decide what to sketch. For a newbie like me, it's very difficult to sketch just from imagination, so the next best thing is to pick up subjects from around me and try and sketch those. One of the things that I am passionate about is reading and a lot of books have some cool illustrations, so I figured that will be the best way to combine two of my interests. I will try all kinds of subjects of course, but for starters this is what I did.
Okay, the water colouring is not so great, but I am thrilled that the sketch is not too bad. Here's the pic with the book.
My first ever attempt to copy from a book was this
This was just on copy paper and I coloured it using some orange Gelatos. I didn't take too much care with the colouring ,to be honest.
How do you like it? Do you have any tips or advice on how I can improve? I would love to know.
See you soon.
Cheers
Pallavi

its beautiful, both of them! Congratulations on both of the great news
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not bad at all Pallavi! It sure looks good. Keep practicing. I love the thing that you can sketch. Colours on the first sketch are good...which is to say you could have been more careful on the tiger sketch to say politely ("colors not good on the tiger"...if I have to say the way you like! :-p). Anyway...i'm super happy about all the things you mentioned. Congrats on your SSS spotlight or spot lit feature! :) <3
ReplyDeleteWow..that is amazing.. glad you got a clean bill of health.. health issues can really bog u down... All is well now and you can dazzle us with your creations further. .
ReplyDeleteOh my goshh! You can really draw! :D I mean I am totally floored. I am so in awe of the tiger sketch you have done! I could NEVER do something like that. I really loved your coloring on both the sketches. I think it's fantastic work.
ReplyDeleteCongrat's on your feature spotlight at SSS! All very well deserved. :)
P/s : So glad your health issue got sorted and the doctor gave you a clean chit. :)
Congratulations my dear. Glad allies well with you. There was a time when I was obsessed with kathakali faces. Wish I had a photo to share with u. Loved d one you've made. Wow!
ReplyDeleteWoW!! This is just awesome! Cool sketches, and I must say I am floored by the background of your Kathakali sketch. The tiger sketch is great too! Happy to have visited you from Friday Sketches.
ReplyDeleteHi Pallavi...Great work....I always wished I could paint or draw...but failed miserably. Keep the good work going. And do keep writing too.

Hey Pallavi you have sketched ditto copy of the images how cool !! you don't like tiger coloring ? Its a bit patchy but you know what it looks like shading , for real life tiger also the color is not that pain ! So I like it more :) Loved the features on firs image .
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being in spotlight !
You created some beautiful pieces! The question is, in which way do you want to improve? Do you want to exact copies of the reference you use or do you want to put your own mark on the painting?

ReplyDeleteYou did awesome on the sketching and colouring. Incidentally, I just bought some water soluble sketch pencils last week...I'll probably work with something a lot simpler though.
